WYNTK:

In a departure from the usual promotional language TaylorMade is placing lots of stress on the hit-ability of the new SIM2 series rather than emphasizing distance as they, and other makers, have done for years.

Using a unique aluminum skirt and lots of weight in the “Inertia Generator” rear weight projection combined with the crown and sole being completely carbon fiber allowed their engineers to increase the MOI and forgiveness. Additionally, the adjustment of curvature of the face cup, they call it Twist Face, with milling of the face interior produced an oval sweet spot running from high on the toe to low at the heel.

The three stablemates do differ in face size. The SIM2 compared with the previous SIM model is 12% larger, SIM2 Max 5% versus the old SIM Max and SIM2 Max D 5% compared with Sim Max D.

With its low-ball launch character expect Tour players to opt for the SIM2 as will many low handicap amateurs. The SIM2 Max is a mid-launch design and will be a good choice for most others but if slicing is a problem the SIM2 Max D has a lot of draw bias and a high launch tendency that should help.

In the press announcement Tomo Bystedt, Senior Director, Product Creation, Metalwoods was quoted, “Forgiveness equals confidence. In 2020, we built a driver that was aerodynamic, promoted favorable launch properties and had one of the hottest faces in golf. By increasing forgiveness with SIM2, SIM2 Max and SIM2 Max D, we’ve truly engineered a driver that has no tradeoffs. Golfers can step to the tee box and have the freedom to swing with confidence every time. Knowing they have a driver that checks all the boxes: Forgiveness, speed and distance with a beautifully crafted aesthetic.
