Ping has launched the much-anticipated successor to the G425 line with the Ping G430, featuring distance gains in all categories.

Ping G430 Drivers

The success of Ping’s previous driver model, the G425, for the past two years set the stage for the design of the new G430. Though prices are up $50, this simply is following the driver market trendline.

For the SFT (Straight Flight Technology) and Max models, there is a custom version called the HL with a lighter back weight, lightweight Alta Quick shaft, and Lamkin UYx Lite grip. This reduces the overall club weight, so players with slower swing speeds will gain distance. Ping says testing showed a gain of nine yards.

The LST (Low Spin Technology) model has a carbon fiber wrap that replaces metal on the rear of the crown and in the heel and toe areas of the skirt. Engineers relocated the weight saved to raise the MOI and lower the spin while increasing ball speed, which benefits high swing speed and better players.

Our approach with G430 has been to find more speed and deliver it in a way that contributes to lower scores and more enjoyment on the course.”

Ping G430 Irons

Ping’s G430 irons take over a primary spot in their lineup, being designed for mid to high-handicap players with perimeter weighting, lower center of gravity, and stronger lofts combined with a thinner face than the G425 previously.

The most interesting change in the G430 irons is the PurFlex badge, comprised of seven zones, each flexing slightly differently. Usually, the cavity badge is a single piece, but Ping’s version serves to aid ball speed over the entire face and give a more solid feel. A new heat-treating method made the G430 face both thinner, allowing for additional flex and stronger for a better rebound at impact.

A High Launch or HL version is available on special order for slower swing speed golfers. The components, a Ping Alta Quick 35/45 shaft, Lamkin UTx Lite grip 41g, and reduced weight in the toe and heel, mean more ball speed and distance.

Following the rest of the club market, Ping has increased the selling cost of the G430s by almost $30 per club, which puts them still in the middle of the range of pricing.
