Ron Garl & Ricky Nix Dish Up a Sweet Renovation at Sugar Mill Country Club

Nestled in the charming coastal town of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Sugar Mill Country Club offers a private, member-owned experience for families who share a passion for golf. With three nine-hole courses – Red, White, and Blue – originally designed by Joe Lee, this acclaimed club has been recognized as the best in Volusia County on numerous occasions. Recently, the club enlisted the services of Ron Garl Design to enhance its already exceptional offerings.

Ron and his senior designer, Ricky Nix, are taking on one nine-hole golf course at a time. Recently, they completed the White Nine course, which has received great feedback from members. The course now boasts new forward and gap tees, as well as a major overhaul of its 50-plus-year-old irrigation system. Thanks to improved drainage, players will be able to enjoy more rounds of golf during Central Florida’s summer thunderstorm season.

Renovations for The Red Nine started on May 1st and are expected to be completed by the time the winter season arrives and the “snowbird members” return to play. After a brief period of inactivity, the Blue course will also undergo renovations to finalize the project, establishing SugarMill as the ultimate destination for upscale dining, pickleball and tennis matches, exclusive member events, and the most exceptional Country Club experience.

Sugar Mill Country Club has hosted numerous U.S. Women’s Open qualifiers and has been certified by Audubon International as a Cooperative Sanctuary.
