Homes & Townhomes are Envisioned to Attract Younger Families.
Palm Harbor, Fl.– The magnificent Innisbrook Resort is planning to build additional residences by reimagining the use of the Osprey North Golf Course, one of four championship layouts currently in play at the resort in northern Pinellas County.
Salamander Innisbrook LLC, the resort’s owner, is intending to build 186 single-family homes and townhouses on a 53-acre portion of the course, adding to the 1,876 condos, apartments and homes that are already part of the 900-acre community.
The remaining 70 acres is planned to be converted into a 12-hole short course, a new quicker, more casual play that is gaining popularity in the industry according to Managing Director of Innisbrook, Mike Williams. Williams added that the redevelopment of the Osprey North Course will not affect the other three courses, including the Copperhead Course, home of the PGA’s Valspar Championship being played March 14-20th, 2022.
“We think our decision to build a short course is a great way to remain competitive with other major golf resorts like Pinehurst, Pebble Beach, Destination Kohler and Bandon Dunes,” says Williams. “We see the development of a new residential neighborhood as a prodigious strategy to grow our membership base with a younger demographic of families that are going to be an integral part of our future. Furthermore, the short course will be designed to be played in less time than a traditional layout, ideal for families, a buddies group enjoying a beverage or two while hacking around, or an after-dinner walk with a wedge and libation.” It will certainly enhance the unique experience of a visit to Innisbrook.
Tucked away on 900 acres of beautifully manicured grounds, Innisbrook is home to a plethora of activities for both young and old. With six stunning pools including the Loch Ness Monster Water Park (shaped like Nessie), water slides, a monster spa, waterfall, sandlots and organized games during season, the kids will certainly enjoy their time at Innisbrook. Bicycle rides on solo cruisers, tandems and surreys are available to enjoy safe journeys throughout the property. If nature is your thing there is a Wildlife Preserve to hike through. Other facilities include 11 excellently maintained tennis courts, a Fitness Center, the Innisbrook Golf Institute to improve your game, and the absolutely stunning Salamander Spa with a full gamut of services.
Dining at Innisbrook is a fantastic experience for the whole family. Right at Loch Ness there is a Grill for light fare and beverages. The Turnberry Pub is located at the Island Clubhouse and overlooks the golf course. For al fresco or indoor lunches and dinners the Market Salamander Grill & Pub is the perfect venue in the Osprey Clubhouse. For that perfect cut of meat or gourmet dining at its finest, Packards Steakhouse in the Copperhead Clubhouse. No matter where you choose, you won’t be disappointed.
Many golfers come to Innisbrook to play where the pros compete during the Valspar Championship- the Copperhead. For those of us who have experienced all four courses, the Island course is just as great a challenge with its water hazards, bunkering and unique design. Larry Packard, who designed all four was a master at giving golfers a totally different palette of play on each one. After the Island takes its toll on your group’s game, Osprey South’s 6,600 yards and playability will have you wanting to return again and again.
