Grande Dunes Members Club – A Premier Grand Strand Private Country Club
Heritage Golf Group made its mark in the Carolinas with its purchase of Brunswick Plantation Resort and Cape Fear National Golf Club in Leland, NC, in early 2022. It then put forth a grand appearance in Myrtle Beach when it acquired Grande Dunes Members Club. The group also purchased The Club at Savannah Quarters in Pooler, GA. Heritage CEO Mark Burnett said, ” These acquisitions align with our strategy of owning and operating private clubs in residential communities in key locations and providing members with a vibrant club lifestyle.”
Grande Dunes Members Club is situated in the elegant Grande Dunes residential community. It provides top-rate golfing experiences, as well as gourmet dining and various social activities. Golf course architect Craig Schreiner, along with PGA TOUR player and Hall of Famer Nick Price, designed the course, which opened in 2005. In 2019 a remodeling of the bunkers and a reengineering of the drainage system for improved water storage and diminished flooding in highly used areas were implemented. Then, over the Summer of 2022, TifEagle Bermuda grass was laid down rather than Bentgrass due to its ability to withstand up to 80 degrees of temperature.
The Members Club plays 7,029 yards from the Championship Tees (Red) with a course rating of 73.8 and a slope of 136, with a par of 71. Ladies typically play the Gold Tees (5,127/70.1/122). The White Tees (6,048/69.5/126) provided an adequate challenge and allowed me to leave with a little dignity. There are five sets of tees in total, so you shouldn’t have difficulty finding a tee set for you.
The Members Club is set in an excellent location, high on a bluff overlooking the Intercoastal Waterway, with panoramic views that include the surrounding maritime forest. It features modest elevation changes, wide TifSport Bermuda fairways, and 34 acres of lakes.
The greens are large and play fast, full of subtle breaks and false fronts. What may go unnoticed is the length of the greens, many more than 35 yards. With a two to three-club distance between a front and back pin placement, the staff can set up the course in an unlimited number of ways and never let members get the feeling they are playing the same course over and over. After all, variety is the spice of life!
