ORLANDO, Fla. – The flip side of golf where fun and accessibility are equally as important as a low handicap is the place for James Davis, host of the new GolfPass streaming series, Golf Road Trippin’, premiered Tuesday, May 18.
A force in comedy, Davis has established himself in the entertainment world as an accomplished stand-up comedian, writer and television host. Also, as a lover of golf – and a legitimate golf talent – he and his uncommon collection of guests, influencers and contributors provide Golf Road Trippin’ with the perfect mix of golf, comedy and discovery as they visit some of the most captivating golf destinations. Golfer stereotypes they are not, but still golfers through and through who love the game, understand its values and aim to do their part in making the game more accessible to all.
“Since the age of 12, I’ve always loved golf. I’m walking proof that this is a game anybody can – and should – be able to play,” Davis said. “Golf Road Trippin’ is not only a showcase for some of the best golf courses around the world, it’s also about showing the cooler side of the game. We respect the rules, etiquette and traditions, but we’re not going to get all caught up with formality or exclusivity. We’re playing golf, having fun and because I’m a comedian and far from a perfect golfer, it’s going to be funny too!”
The Golf Road Trippin’ series, which is debuting with six, bi-weekly episodes, will build on a new GolfPass lifestyle and comedy genre that started in 2020 with The Conor Moore Show, which quickly became GolfPass’ most-viewed original series in its first season.
Some of Davis’ credentials include recently hosting the MTV series, Adorableness, a spin-off of the network’s popular Ridiculousness. He’s also hosted his own series, Hood Adjacent, on Comedy Central, written for the Late Late Show with James Corden, made regular appearances on E!’s Chelsea Lately, written for the BET Awards, and is a regular on the Funny or Die website.
Joining Davis throughout Golf Road Trippin’ are fellow golf lovers, many who made a name for themselves in other arenas. Comics are in no short supply, including the familial Sklar Brothers – Randy and Jason – best known for hosting the show Cheap Seats, which aired for four seasons on ESPN. Also appearing is multifaceted comedian and actor Chase Anthony, a former college football player who has performed stand-up and appeared in TV and film; and Jake Adams, a comedian and member of the popular social media group “Country Club Adjacent.”
The golf set includes names like Tisha Alyn, former professional golfer turned Tik Tok star and trick shot artist; and long driver Roger Steele. Golf fashion icon John Ashworth, whose Linksoul brand also is known for its social consciousness, also makes an appearance.
The initial episodes of Golf Road Trippin’ begin with an exploration of the golfing lifestyle in Southern California and Las Vegas. Famous Goat Hill Park and Omni La Costa Club and Spa highlight destinations in the San Diego area, with The Links at Terranea and Rustic Canyon Golf Course included as stops along the way throughout Los Angeles. Chimera Golf Club and Bali Hai Golf Club provide a needed distraction from The Strip when the crew visit Las Vegas.
