The Bob: A New Generation’s Love for Bobby Jones Golf Course

As junior golf continues to grow in popularity, one public course in Atlanta has remained at the forefront. Since completing renovations at the end of 2018, Bobby Jones Golf Course (BJGC) has served over 3,000 different junior golfers. The youth that currently frequent BJGC have even come to refer to it affectionately as “The Bob” – a name that communicates the sentiment of the new generation that has begun to call the course home.

In addition to Bobby Jones Golf Course being one of the few public courses in Atlanta, they also cater to and champion their younger clientele, creating a unique atmosphere that is warm and inviting to all. The size of BJGC’s junior golf program is one of the largest in the country, currently hosting the #1 PGA Junior League program in Georgia and #10 in the country. The course’s programming was designed to grow the game of golf with a specific focus on junior golfers and adaptive golfers. BJGC offers a wide range of flexible programs for ages 3-17, including clinics, summer camps, private lessons, and a junior league, with exclusive use of the US Kids player pathway program.

BJGC also makes it a point to ramp up their summer programming once kids are out of school, with ten weeks of summer camps for 2023 that are currently slated to host close to 600 kids. They are also currently carrying out their PGA Junior League, which kicked off this spring. Not to mention, BJGC has a team of amazing instructors that are dedicated to growing the game of golf through their students. BJGC staff has consisted of a US Kids Golf Top 50 Teacher award winner each of the last 4 years and a GRAA Top 100 Growth of the Game Teaching Professional award winner the last 3 years.

However, it’s more than the accolades that have made “The Bob” so popular among younger golfers. The innovative reversible golf course offers variety, providing 9 holes with multiple tee and pin combinations. Being able to play a very different loop each time around keeps kids engaged and excited to come back and play next time. BJGC is also home to state-of-the-art tech and practice facilities, a putting course, the Grand Slam Golf Academy, Boone’s restaurant, and the Murray Golf House making it more of a one-stop hangout destination than just a golf course, which appeals to younger golfers.
