Golf’s most inclusive tournament, PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur Handicap Championship is poised to tee off on 60 of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina’s finest golf courses. The 36th annual World Am is being played August 26-30th with more than 3,200 golfers representing 49 states and 30+ countries competing in the 72-hole event.

“The PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur Handicap Championship represents everything that is great about the game of golf,” says Scott Tomasello, Tournament Director. “We will have men and women from all walks of life and all over the globe here in Myrtle Beach, enjoying the opportunity to compete and celebrate the game they love. Out of a field of 3,200 we will crown a World Champion, but this tournament is about so much more than a golfer’s score.”

The World Am flights players into nine divisions-men 49 and under, senior men(50-59), mid-senior men(60-69), super senior men(70-79), seasoned seniors(80+), women 49 and under-gross division, and senior ladies(50+) gross division. There is also a “Just for Fun” flight which I will be joining, created for players who want to enjoy the World Am experience without the pressure of competition.

After 72 holes of net, stroke play competition, all flight winners and ties will advance to the Flight Winner’s Playoff at Barefoot Resort’s Dye Club for an 18 hole shootout that will determine the 2019 World Champion.

While competition is what initially attracts golfers to the World Am, It is only part of the event’s draw. At the heart of the World Am’s appeal is the camaraderie among the participants and much of that kinship at fostered at the World’s Largest 19th Hole. Each night of the tournament, the 19th Hole overtakes the 120,000 square foot Myrtle Beach Convention Center, providing participants with free food and drinks, live entertainment, celebrity guest appearances, a Golf Expo and more.

Among the big names that will join media personality and tournament host Charlie Rymer at the 19th Hole this year are Golf Channel personalities Damon Hack, Chantel McCabe and Geoff Shackleford, social media influencer Paige Spiranac, famed instructors Michael Breed and Hank Haney, and billiards legend Ewa Mataya Laurence.

In addition to a bucket list golf experience, World Am players will also receive a gift bag that includes a Chase 54 polo, a pullover, a logo’d hat, a PGA Tour Superstore gift card and an assortment of other goodies.
