Like the mythological phoenix rising from the ashes of its predecessor so has the Ooltewah Club come to be from the Champions Club, a private lifestyle and golf club located in Ooltewah, Tennessee. The renaming and rebranding celebrate the recent completion of a renovation to the facilities and coincides with the new ownership and management company’s commitment to the continued improvement of the club. The Ooltewah Club is an 18-hole golf club nestled at the foot of White Oak Mountain in Ooltewah, Tennessee. The 150-acre property’s centerpiece is the newly renovated clubhouse with a newly decorated lounge with an award-winning chef and a recently outfitted Pro Shop where members can order items from leading golf brands and be expertly fitted for clubs.

Overseen by Bobby Cupp Jr., an Atlanta based golf course architect, The Ooltewah Club underwent a more than $1 million renovation to the golf course which included new TifEagle Bermuda Grass on all 18 greens, rebuilt and recontoured bunkers, new tee complexes, irrigation repairs and enhancements, and extensive golf cart path repairs and rerouting. Additionally, new quality maintenance equipment, including new range balls, and practice amenities, new golf carts, and a new beverage cart have been acquired to ensure a better member and guest experience at The Ooltewah Club. These improvements are supplemented by the club’s renovations in 2019 to the clubhouse and dining facilities.

“This rebrand coincides with the substantial renovations to our facilities and will allow us to maximize the growth potential of the Club,” says Derek Montecalvo, General Manager of The Ooltewah Club. “Our guests can expect the same level of service, quality, and comradery that is synonymous with a private club, while also enjoying an environment that is fun, relaxed, and conducive to making lifelong memories. We are thrilled to invite members and guests to experience the revamped Ooltewah Club.” Visit TheOoltewah

As part of the enhancements, The Ooltewah Club is excited to welcome Christopher Owen as the new club superintendent. Owen joined the Champions Club team a few months ago. Prior to that, Christopher served as the Senior Assistant Superintendent at the Governors Club in Brentwood, Tennessee. In addition to an extensive knowledge of all aspects of agronomics on the golf course, Owen brings to this position experience with golf course grow-ins, renovations, and construction projects. After graduation from Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in Plant and Soil Science, Owen spent four years at The Golf Club of Georgia as the Assistant Superintendent before moving to the Frederica Club in St. Simons Island, Ga. and later the Richland Country Club in Nashville. Besides all this experience, Owen has more than ten years of experience with tournament preparation and a strong understanding of what is needed to accomplish successful events.

“We are honored to have Chris Owen join The Ooltewah Club family, said Mike Nolan, Vice President of Operations at Bobby Jones Links, the premier Atlanta-based golf management company. “Christopher has been a vital part of overseeing the enhancements at the golf course and with his expertise, I have no doubt that the club will become one of the best private clubs in the Chattanooga area.” The Club opened in late September.
