The South Course at Quail Ridge Country Club, in Boynton Beach, Fla., redesigned last year by Bobby Weed Golf Design, will co-host the 74th  Open Championship, along with Pine Tree Golf Club, to be played July 17-19, 2020. Bobby Weed was on hand at Quail Ridge last November for the grand reopening of the complete redesign of the South Course.

“The South Course, with its modern, contemporary finish, will be a challenging and enjoyable venue for this year’s Open Championship,” said Weed. “Clustered bunkering and open approaches encourage a variety of thoughtful shot making.

“The Society of Seniors originated at Quail Ridge, and the membership has a number of good golfers on its rolls. Designing for a discerning and forward-thinking audience is always engaging.”

Central to the Quail Ridge – South Course redesign project was a reduction in irrigated, maintained turf, which was replaced with coquina-like screenings and pine straw. The striking visual contrast orients golfers on each tee as they contemplate the ribbons of emerald turf winding through the lighter screenings areas. Sturdy coquina boulder walls at several green sites stand as exclamation points on the layout’s new aesthetic.

Weed and associate Joey Graziani spent five months living on-site, personally crafting the intricately contoured green complexes. The renovation also included the practice area.

Co-hosting this year’s Open Championship will be Pine Tree Golf Club. Bobby Weed Golf Design remodeled this Boynton Beach, Fla. layout in 2005. For more information on Quail Ridge, please visit QuailRidgeCC.com
