Palmilla Beach Golf Club has 18 championship holes designed by the legendary Arnold Palmer that he carved out of the untamed native dunes on the rugged Texas coast along the Gulf of Mexico. Ocean breezes, rolling fairways lined with native grasses, and imposing greens make the challenges formidable.

The game of golf was born on rugged windswept links in Scotland, similar to the coastline of Mustang Island where the course sits. Every hole, every hazard, and every shot at Palmilla Beach was meticulously considered to take full advantage of the scabrous land and challenging elements indigenous to the area. As the elements change, so does the course. It’s all part of this great game as it was meant to be played. A lower ball flight is crucial for success, most of the holes either play into the wind or a crosswind. The penalty for a wayward shot is often a lost ball as the fairways and greens are well protected by marsh grasses and dune vegetation.

Measuring over 6900 yards from the tips, the par 71 golf course meanders through sweeping paspalum grass fairways with spectacular views of both the Gulf and Corpus Christi Bay. Arnold’s intentional design and layout combine with the many facets to uncover a golf experience each time you play. A bridge, which links the first three holes and driving range to the rest of the course, provides a panoramic view of the entire area, including the beach. When you get to the par 4, 12th, which turns toward the ocean with the next three holes playing close to the coast with great views of the gulf.

The Palmilla Beach Golf Club’s 14th is perhaps the quintessential ocean hole. With a narrow fairway, you need to try and hold the wind off the tee of this 420 yard par 4, playing a semi-blind approach over the dunes to the green. Golfweek named it “One of the top 10 courses you can play in Texas” and it is a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary managed by Troon. Visit to make your tee times.
