KOVA Golf Management, headquartered in Naples, Florida has assumed management of The Country Club of Bristol, an historic golf club in the ‘Volunteer State.’ The golf course at this semi-private club re-opened under the new direction of KOVA, which has also announced a series of property-wide enhancement projects. The previous management company, which had signed a long-term lease, left in a lurch leaving the members and ownership without staff and numerous other problems. By signing with Kova, the club will have a reliable and experienced team to operate the club.
The club features 18 holes of golf along with a pro shop, practice area, tennis, raquetball, volleyball, a comprehensive fitness center, a junior olympic size swimming pool and a clubhouse complete with dining and meeting facilities. The existing 18-hole course was originally designed by Tennessee golf architect A.G. McKay and opened in 1958. Mark McCumber and Associates design group remodeled it in 1999 resulting in a challenging 6,474 yard, par 71 track situated on 150 acres of rolling hills bordered by the Cherokee National Forest and the Appalachian Mountains.
“The Country Club of Bristol is not only the birthplace of organized golf in Tennessee,” says Rick Rainville, President and Managing Partner of KOVA, “it is one of the oldest clubs in America. The history here is amazing and we want the community to know we take great pride in keeping this rich tradition alive and well.”
The design of the golf course is challenging but fair with long narrow fairways and fast undulating greens. There are several risk-reward holes throughout the layout which will give golfers pause before whaling away. The par 4, ninth, an uphill dog-leg left, is one of the tougher tests that includes a water hazard to clear. Besides the excellent golf experience, the Country Club of Bristol has been known for having the some of the best manicured fairways and true greens. Go Play!
Several projects are planned to restore the golf course to championship condition. Among the planned clubhouse renovations is a completely new restaurant, which will be named “1894” to commemorate the original opening of the club. The casual outdoor seating area will be expanded to take advantage of the panoramic views of the golf course.
“It is exciting to see the fresh innovative direction that KOVA is proposing for the Country Club of Bristol,” said Mitch Walters of the Bristol Preservation LLC, the club ownership group. “We found a managing partner that understands the club’s needs in providing members and guests with a premier golf club lifestyle.”
New membership programs for the club are available with new single or family golf options. Special consideration has been offered to the existing members.
