The PXG Xtreme Experience

Anyone who would name his company Parsons Xtreme Golf isn’t going to be subtle. And Bob Parsons believes he’s gone to the extreme to create the finest club’s money can buy-quite a lot of money – about $5,000. After founding the internet domain GoDaddy (Bob sold most of the company for GoZillions in 2011), he got hooked on golf. With money to burn, Parsons spent in excess of $300,000 a year on golf clubs, and finely decided to make his own. Now six years later, Parsons Xtreme Golf(PXG) turns out distinctive looking clubs that are custom-fitted through golf facilities across the USA and, he says, 30 countries around the globe. Parsons, who renders the final verdict on every club his designers(many of whom came from PING) come up with, knows who his audience is.

“We look at PXG as a luxury brand rather than a golf club brand,” says Parsons. “We don’t believe we compete with most golf club companies that cater to the entire market and we do not attend the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando. We don’t sell through discounter or big box stores because we believe that is not our customer base. That’s maintaining the integrity and persona of the brand. Our clubs have to be eye-opening performers.”

Parsons’ irons have a forged appearance, but the forgiveness of cavity-backed clubs is there because a cavity is hidden inside the head which has a perimeter of shallow ports that allow for custom balance. The face of the irons is super-thin with a thermoplastic elastomer behind it to prevent cave-ins and enhance the feel.

“Our wedges are the only clubs that are 100% milled.” says Parsons. “We use a machine that cuts each wedge out of an 11-pound block of steel. The milling process takes four and a half hours for each wedge. Our grooves conform to USGA requirement, but they are very precise, very close to what the limit is.The design is very appealing to the eye.” Drivers and fairway metals are complex and weighted to square the clubface at impact. PXG makes twelve different models of putters.

The TPC Network and PXG have announced a new game-improvement partnership. The two entities revealed an alliance designed to help golfers propel their game to the next level with TPCs, as well as several other licensed properties now serving as PXG fitting hubs.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Parsons Xtreme Golf and bring this exciting new offering to 12 properties,” said Bill Whaley, TPC Network Senior Regional Director of Operations.

“As an extension of the PGA TOUR, we’re always looking for ways to enhance rounds so they’re more enjoyable and memorable. The more we succeed at this the more we are helping to ensure the future of the game of golf.”

Golfers participating in PXG’s TPC Tour level fitting experience will have access to a full matrix of fitting heads and more than 300 premium shaft options. Swings are closely analyzed by an elite team of PXG Master Fitters who use the most advanced technology, such as Trackman, to provide insight into swing analytics.

Parsons also wants you to have an ‘Experience.’ For $17,500 ‘The Experience’ lets you spend three days at the Scottsdale National Golf Club(which Bob owns) being fitted for clubs and playing three rounds of golf with accommodations at the Four Seasons Scottsdale Resort, with some meals and amenities included. The there is the ‘ULTIMATE

Experience.’ For $100,000 you get a four-day club fitting and playing experience for two with private air transportation from anywhere in the United States.

Parsons has a huge following of professionals playing his PXG clubs: Ryan Moore, Zach Johnson, Pat Perez, Charles Howell III, Lydia Ko, Brittany Lang and Ana Nordqvist just to name a few. Billy Horschel, a winner of the 2017 AT&T Byron Nelson, plays and endorses PXG clubs saying, “Bob wants to build the best product possible and use the latest, best materials to do that. So he built clubs that cost a lot more than others, but they also perform really well. I think, even to his surprise, he found a market for them bigger than he expected.”
