The highly acclaimed Gold Course was originally designed in 1963 by renowned architect Robert Trent Jones Sr., and reopened July 1, 2017 following a complete renovation by son Rees. Along with a wall to wall regrass, featuring Northbridge Bermuda in the fairways and rough with 007 Bent on the greens, all bunkers were rebuilt with the “Better Billy Bunker” system to improve drainage and playability, and topped with new white sugar sand. Additional enhancements include nine new forward tees providing a more forgiving option for high-handicap players along with the leveling of all the tees and reconstruction of four green complexes.
The Green Course is a Rees Jones modern original layout opened in 1991 and carved from the same rolling terrain as the Gold, offering a strong option for avid golfers and members with wider fairways, larger and more undulating greens and more length from the tips at 7,120 yards at par 72.
The Horseshoe is rounded out by the nine-hole par 31 Spotswood Course, named after Colonial Governor Alexander Spotswood, and was the original course next to the Williamsburg Inn. In 1964, Senior renovated it, which can be played from varying tee boxes twice for a comfortable 18 hole game.
