Golf Academy of Diamondhead Country Club’s Junior Golf Division Instructor, Jimmy Headrick, has been selected as one of the top four U.S. Kids Golf Tour Directors for 2017. Jimmy has been the Golf Coast Tour Director since 2015.
U.S. Kids Golf, a leader in growing junior golf, has grown from 38 to 62 tours in just two years and Headrick has been an integral part of the growth.
“Jimmy Headrick has helped us rejuvenate junior golf in this region. He took a tour that was three days away from locking its doors. Jackson, Mississippi and Alexandria, Louisiana had just closed and through Jimmy’s efforts we were able to add Northwest Florida, Montgomery, Alabama, Central Mississippi, Acadiana, Louisiana and Beaumont, Texas Tours. He has made a major impact in the growth of junior golf in the United States,” said Greg Hubbard, the U.S. Kids Golf National Tour Director. In 2013, Headrick became a Certified Master Golf Instructor for Life for U.S. Kids. For more information, go to USKIDSgolf.com
Headrick has been a PGA member since 1979 and has won countless awards. On August 29th, 2005 Jimmy’s life was turned upside down. He was the Head Professional at the semi private Eastover Country Club that was a favorite of many from east New Orleans with two Joe Lee wonderfully designed golf courses. Then Katrina struck. The Country Club was under water for a long time and the Headrick family lost their home and Jimmy lost his job and pension. He moved around a bit and finally found a home at the Golf Academy at Diamondhead Country Club with Hoppy Smith.
In addition to his work with U.S. Kids and Diamondhead, Jimmy is currently involved with the PGA Junior League, The Positive Coach Alliance, Head Golf Coach at Holy Cross High School in New Orleans, Golf Instructor at Hahnville High School in Boutee, Louisiana, Director of The Mackel( New Orleans Metro Amateur Golf Championship and Director of the Holiday Junior Golf Classic at Pinewood C.C. in Slidell, La. He is the President and Founder of the BC Cup Foundation which is named in honor of his son Colin and friend Barry, which gives scholarships to needy students. He is also a consultant and instructor at Duncan Park Golf course in Natchez, Mississippi.
Diamondhead Country Club and the Golf Academy of Diamondhead are located on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, conveniently located between New Orleans and Gulfport/Biloxi, just north of Exit 16 off of Interstate 10. Diamondhead Country Club boasts the only facility on the Gulf with 36 holes of championship golf. The Pine course designed by Earl Stone reaches out to 6800 yards from the tips with multiple tee boxes to make everyone’s game suitable for a pleasant day on the links. Water, multiple bunkers and tree lined fairways will present wise club-selections. Renovated about four years ago, The Cardinal, with its gentle rolling terrain, is more a parkland style layout by Jon LaFoy, with tree lined fairways but none parallel and nearly 6800 yards from the tips.
The Golf Academy at Diamondhead is one of the most recognized schools in Mississippi with both indoor and outdoor facilities. The outstanding staff have been there for many years with 2016 Gulf States PGA Teacher of the Year, Hoppy Smith, as Director. Hoppy and Jimmy share instructional duties with Laura McCann, a PGA Class A member and long time resident of Diamondhead.
Congratulations to Jimmy Headrick from eSouthernGOLF.
