Titleist Launches AP1 Smoke Limited Edition Irons

The maximum distance and maximum forgiveness of Titleist 716 AP1 irons can now be experienced in a sleek new finish: Limited Edition Smoke. Limited to 500 sets, 716 AP1 Smoke features a rich, dark, durable PVD coating that, when applied to the high-polish stainless steel of 716 AP1, creates the appearance of a more compact blade length and thinner top line at address. The darker finish also helps to reduce glare that might reflect off the irons on bright days.

The Limited Edition Smoke finish on 716 AP1 was inspired by golfer feedback based on the growing popularity of the Jet Black and Steel Gray finishes available on Vokey SM6 wedges. (Jimmy Walker recently switched to a Jet Black finish on his SM6’s.)

“More golfers than ever before are realizing the exceptional distance and forgiveness benefits of 716 AP1. This is superior game improvement technology that helps players hit the ball further with the proper trajectory to stop the ball on the green and maintain that performance even on off-center hits,” said Josh Talge, Vice President of Marketing, Titleist Golf Clubs. “We’re introducing the Smoke finish as a test run because golfers have been asking us for it,” Talge said. “We’ve seen a trend in players gravitating toward the darker finishes in our Vokey SM6 wedges and many of them have asked if we’ll ever bring those types of finishes to our iron line. Smoke is our first experiment. Not only does it have a great look, but for many golfers it will also make the club appear smaller at address. It’s really a great option for those players who want all the benefits of a game improvement iron but want to look down and see something more slim and compact.”

716 AP1’s extreme 360º undercut cavity design with a large, thin, unsupported face delivers speed and launch for maximum distance, while the industry-leading use of high-density tungsten weighting provides maximum forgiveness.

716 AP1 technology results in the best combination of low CG and high MOI in the game-improvement category, helping golfers improve their iron play by hitting the ball farther with the proper flight to stop the ball closer to the pin more consistently. 716 AP1 irons are the most forgiving among irons of similar size.
