The Cliffs Add Mountain Park

the cliffsThe newest addition to the Cliffs Communities collection is Cliffs at Mountain Park, just outside the lovely city of Greenville, South Carolina The Cliffs are an undertaking unique in the world of golf realty and country club living.

There are seven distinct Cliffs developments strung along the Blue Ridge Mountains from Ashville, North Carolina south to Greenville. They are outdoor and active lifestyle villages surrounded by more than a million acres of protected National Forest. All of them are within reasonable driving distance of one another, and a single membership at any one provides access to the impressive array of amenities at the others, which are set either on lakes or in mountains.

The assortment of shared facilities is unparalleled and includes beautiful clubhouses, wellness centers, hiking trails, tennis courts, equestrian centers, marinas. restaurants, a winery, and yes, seven championship golf courses designed by the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio, Ben Wright and others.

Mountain Park spans 5,000 acres of rolling ridgelines on the southern edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains, a site characterized by mountain peaks of elevations reaching 1,800 feet, clear streams tumbling down in waterfalls and long range vistas, with wonderful seasons of mild comfortable weather. Like the other Cliffs properties, it is focused on wellness and an active lifestyle. Amenities at Mountain Park include a “super trail system” with 8.5 miles of hiking and biking trails within the property, laid out around the community’s centerpiece, The Green Pond Pavilion. The large Green Pond is suitable for canoeing and non motorized fishing boats, and a great place for family picnics and barbecues.

The golf course at Mountain Park was designed by Hall of Famer Gary Player and opened in September of 2013.  It is dramatically different from the other 6 layouts. The course features a links-inspired bump-and-run design set in a wooded valley along the North Saluda River which comes into play on 8 holes. There is also a 12 acre lake that borders holes 11 & 12. It stretches out to 7,218 yards from the championship tips, but it is quite playable with wide  fairways, gently contoured  greens and generous collection areas.

In keeping with Player’s famous fitness regiment, the golf course is intentionally walkable and reminiscent of Donald Ross layouts with tees and greens short distances from each other. Natural preservation was strongly considered as well when Gary routed it to protect and emphasize native flora and fauna to flourish.

The location of Mountain Park makes it very accessible to two other properties, The Cliffs at Glassy and Cliffs Valley which are near Greenville. Glassy was the first community built which sets at 3,200 feet atop Glassy Mountain with 50 mile views, and a Tom Jackson designed course, a wellness center and tennis.
