TaylorMade Spider Winning on the Greens

If you have been watching Dustin Johnson’s rise to #1 in the World Golf rankings, and Jason Day’s rise before him, you would have noticed the similarity of their success on the greens with the TaylorMade Spider putter. And now the winner of the Farmer’s Insurance Open, Jon Rahm, is sporting another model of the venerable Spider, which he used to sink a 60 foot putt on the 18th hole at Torrey Pines Golf Club to win.

Ever since Jason’s win at Whistling Straits to garner the 2015 PGA Championship, I have been enamored with the Spider in their hands, making putts from everywhere and on different surfaces. Take for example, Dustin’s recent WGC-Mexico Championship win on poa annua greens, where everyone was missing he was making putts.

The TaylorMade Spider Tour putter features a Pure Roll insert that delivers Tour-Proven performance that increases topspin and keeps the golf ball on its intended line. The insert combines 45 degree grooves with a softer polymer that improves forward roll across varying surfaces. With a high MOI the putter increases forgiveness and stability. It has a dampening foam behind the face for consistent sound and feel.

“The Spider consistently started the ball on the line that I wanted it to, which is something I struggled with my other putter.” said Dustin Johnson, after he put the Spider in play. “I have never made so many putts over 10 feet than I did at the BMW Championship, and ended up winning the tournament because of the putts I made.”

Dustin plays a Spider with a black cosmetic design, no sightline and a 80/20 insert for firmer sound and feel, while Jason plays a red Spider with no sightline with a surlyn insert for softer sound and feel. Jon Rahm plays a Tour Platinum Spider with a long sightline, a double bend shaft and a face balanced head. We are all not Dustin, Jason or Jon, but we now have the opportunity to order a Spider that suits our game. Pick your color, sightline or not, and any other specific shaft that will help you make more putts. Go to TaylorMadeGolf.com to check out all the winning clubs and order yours.
