Srixon, a company with more than 80 years of golf ball manufacturing experience and a commitment to producing the highest quality and technically innovative golf balls, recently introduced a new edition of its tour-proven Z-STAR ball as well as the all new Z-STAR XV. The new Z-STAR and Z-STAR XV provide two distinct tour offerings that have been re-designed, re-calculated and re-formulated to produce the best balance of tour performance across all clubs in the bag.
The new Srixon Z-STAR series delivers greater advances in spin control and softness, while improving the flight characteristics that have won both balls high acclaim.
The surface of the new Z-STAR ball series employs Srixon’s newly developed Spin Skin™ is two times softer than any previous Srixon coating and helps create a 20% increase in frictional force between the ball and clubface, leading to greatly enhanced spin performance. This enables players to hit short approach shots with plenty of backspin, while experiencing a softer feel. Now you can put just the right amount of backspin on approach shots; that is, as long as you knew how to do it in the first place!
The Z-STAR series also has a newly developed 344 Speed Dimple™ design increases the ratio of dimples to surface area of the golf ball by more than 4%, making it possible to play more aggressive golf under all conditions., This dimple design helps reduce air resistance for improved flight performance, resulting in a longer-carrying trajectory that can conquer even strong the strongest “in-your-face wind.
The Z-STAR features a brand new Energy Gradient Growth™ (EGG™) large-diameter core with newly developed additives for more contrast between outer hardness and inner softness, resulting in more lift, less spin and longer flight distances.
The new Z-STAR XV features a new Neo EGG™ large-diameter, two-layer core with increased contrast between outer hardness and inner softness, which delivers more lift and less spin for a quicker launch and greater overall flight distances.
All that aside, I found the Z-STAR and Z-STAR XV an excellent ball to play. I was very impressed with the carry off the tee which seemed longer than the Titleist Pro-V1x or Bridgestone RX330 I have been playing. On approach shots I was able to make the ball stop on a dime, something I am not used to seeing. When it comes to putting, both balls have a really soft feel. This is a ball that I will definitely start playing on a regular basis.
So far, the new Z-STAR balls have already garnered more than 40 worldwide wins, including three majors and two rounds of 59. Their professional staffs includes notable players such as Graeme McDowell, Keegan Bradley, Vijay Singh, David Toms, and many others.
The Z-STAR and the Z-STAR XV will carry a MAP price of $44.99, although they can be purchase at major online golf retailers for considerably less (around $29.95). Both the Z-STAR and Z-STAR XV are available in Pure White or Tour Yellow.
