Rory McIroy is the #1 player in the world again after clinching the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, his eighth PGA Tour career win, after a stunning victory at the Open Championship in Royal Liverpool, England. His tour title brings to eleven the number of wins NIKE athletes have accomplished including the Women’s U.S. Open Championship at Pinehurst by Nike Lady Michelle Wie.
Just a week before the final major of the season, the 96th PGA Championship at Valhalla Country Club in Louisville, Kentucky, Rory put on a thunderous display with his Nike Covert 2.0 Tour driver and Nike RZN Black golf ball, averaging 335 yards off the tee- 35 more yards than the field’s average and ranking first in the field on the South Course at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.
“What I am really proud of this week is following up The Open with a performance like this,” said McIroy. “I said straight after I did not want any let down and to keep going, keep performing well until the end of the season. I’m pretty satisfied.”
Equally as impressive was Rory’s precise iron play. Ranking third in the field with his Nike VR Pro blades, He averaged 79% in greens in regulation-20% better than his competition. And in strokes gained in putting McIroy finished in the top five with his Nike Method 006 putter.
On his sculpted physique, Rory sported apparel from Nike Golf’s Performance Collection, and Nike Lunar Control shoes to help him ‘walk the walk’ of a champion.
Some of the other Nike players to have won this year are Russell Henley at the Honda, Seung Yul Noh at the Zurich Classic, Charl Schwartzel at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, Xin-Jun Zhang at Beijing Open and Cheyenne Woods at Volvic RACV Ladies Masters.
eSouthernGOLF.com wants to congratulate Rory McIlroy and our friends at NIKE Golf.
