Matt Brown Named to Lead NGCOA North Carolina

The National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA), headquartered in Charleston, South Carolina, is pleased to announce Matt Brown has been named the executive director of the North Carolina chapter (NGCOA NC). Brown, who also serves as executive director of the NGCOA Georgia (NGCOA GA), brings a vast amount of experience and knowledge of the golf industry to this position.

“There’s no better individual to lead our efforts in the state of North Carolina,” says Joe Rice, director of membership for the NGCOA. “I’ve seen firsthand how deeply Matt cares about the fate of golf course owners and operators, and owns the responsibility of advocating on their behalves in everything he does. He’ll bring this same level of passion and commitment to North Carolina, as he works to galvanize the industry and help champion causes of most importance to owners and operators.”

Born in Orlando, Florida, Brown attended Stetson University, where he was a four-year scholarship baseball player. Upon graduation, Brown moved to Statesboro, Georgia, to become the director of marketing and promotions for Georgia Southern University. Over the next 14 years, Brown held numerous advertising and marketing positions in the collegiate and professional sports world. It was during this time that Brown met many of the key figures in Georgia’s golf industry.

In early 2011, Brown was offered the executive director’s position of the newly re-launched NGCOA GA. During his tenure, Brown has dramatically increased membership in the association and developed a full suite of member benefits. He has also worked with local lobbyists to address a number of regional and state governmental issues that affect the golf industry, and hosted an array of statewide and regional meetings for course owners and operators throughout Georgia.

“Matt’s understanding of the golf business, coupled with his ability to quickly build strong, long-standing relationships, are two of the reasons the Georgia Chapter has experienced so much success in recent years,” says Mike Hughes, CEO of the NGCOA. “We’re looking forward to Matt doing the same in North Carolina.”

One of the areas where Brown has considerable experience is third-party tee time providers. In 2011, he oversaw the launch of Play18.com, a third-party website the GGCOA developed to combat other tee time providers and to ensure golf course owners and operators’ interests were protected.

Matt has been married to his wife, Nichole, for 11 years. They have a son, Nolan, who is 21 months old.
