LPGA Legends, Little River Band To Rock Delray Beach At Walgreens Charity Championship

The legends of golf and rock will join forces to support South-Florida based charities in the 2nd annual Walgreens Charity Championship presented by The Seagate Country Club.

Former LPGA Tour stars now playing The Legends Tour, official senior tour of the LPGA, and national recording artist, the Little River Band, are set to appear in Delray Beach on Friday and Saturday, November 6-7.

“Thanks to the Seagate Hospitality Group and Tony Wilson, we’re thrilled to have the Little River Band perform live to celebrate what will undoubtedly be another exciting finish in the Walgreens Charity Championship,” says Legends Tour CEO Jane Blalock, a 29-time winner on the LPGA Tour who will compete in the event.
The professional tournament kicks off on Friday, November 6, with a field of 51 LPGA Legends and one senior women amateur champion competing in the championship. The pros will compete for a purse of $250,000.

Local amateur Sue Cohn of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., reached the semifinals of last month’s 2015 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.

Nine LPGA and World Golf Hall of Famers will be in the tournament field, featuring Pat Bradley, Donna Caponi, JoAnne Carner, Beth Daniel, Laura Davies, Sandra Haynie, Juli Inkster, Patty Sheehan and Hollis Stacy. Delray Beach resident and 18-time LPGA Tour champion Meg Mallon is the defending champion.

Saturday’s final round will be followed by a brief trophy ceremony and charity check presentation to be held on a specially constructed stage adjacent to the Seagate clubhouse. Little River Band will immediately follow the awards ceremony.

Little River Band is considered one of Australia’s most significant bands. Worldwide album and CD sales now top 30 million. This marks the third time Little River Band has performed following a professional golf event. Most recently they capped off The Players Championship in Cromwell, Conn.

“The setting (at Seagate) is magnificent,” says lead singer Wayne Nelson. “To see our stage set up overlooking the back of the Seagate Country Club will be a real treat. Great golf, then great music and great Florida weather — should be an awesome night.”

Jane Crafter, a native Australian with one win on both the LPGA and Legends Tours, remembers Little River Band fondly and plans to sing along. “My favorite song? Well, they’re all good, but in summer we all longed for a Cool Change,” says Crafter.
Tickets are on sale now in area Walgreens for $10 per day – a $5 savings off tournament-day pricing at the gate. Ticket proceeds support the Dan Marino Foundation, Achievement Centers for Children and Families, and Bethesda Hospital Foundation.

Kids 13 and under and active military personnel with ID get in free. The Little River Band concert is included in Saturday’s tournament admission. Public parking is free and located in the Delray Square II Shopping Center.

Complimentary shuttle service to the tournament entrance on The Seagate Country Club grounds is available. You must have a ticket to board the shuttle. Gates open at 7:30 a.m. both days, with tee times starting at 8 a.m.
