The Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at the Cliffs at Keowee Falls near Salem ,South Carolina reopened at the end of August 2014 after the successful completion of a $450,000 planned enhancement and upgrade project. As part of the new strategic plan put in place by the Cliffs’ new ownership, Arendale Holdings, the course upgrade at the Falls is just one of many projects in place to continue to refine and showcase the standard-setting lifestyle enjoyed by Cliffs members.

“We felt the Keowee Falls Golf Course conversion project was a perfect way to give our residents a fresh experience while enhancing an already great course,” explains David Sawyer, Executive Vice President of the Cliff Clubs. The par 72, 7,171 yard course underwent a complete 18 hole green conversion, replacing the original Bentgrass with Champion Bermuda Grass to improve overall course performance. ” By converting we minimize aeration cycles necessary to offer consistent premium play during the peak season” explained The Cliffs Senior Agronomist Jim Evans. In addition, six new forward tees were added to the course and a short game practice facility was added.

Keowee Falls is one of the Cliffs Communities’ two Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Courses, and has been recognized with numerous accolades, including being honored as the “Best Courses in South Carolina” by Golf Digest, South Carolina’s Top 50 Golf Courses and Excellence in Course design by South Carolina Golf Rating Panel. Shortly following its opening in 2007, The Cliffs at Keowee Falls Golf Course was named among the Best New Courses of 2008 by Golfweek and Top 10 Best New Private Courses of 2008 by Golf Magazine.

Troy Vincent, owner of Vincent Design, LLC of Augusta, Georgia whose experience includes work on esteemed courses and a stint with Jacklin Design Group, and 15 years with Nicklaus Design, joined Jim Evans to manage the conversion. Thanks to Troy and his team, The Cliffs was able to soften Keowee Falls’ greens and make slope adjustments on the course. “The Cliffs is revolutionizing the game of golf by stripping away factors that may intimidate our players. These small adjustments will provide a friendlier golf experience during play, explains Brian Peeples, Director of Golf.
