Bishops Gate Golf Academy (BGGA) located in Howey in the Hills, Florida announced the addition of Jonathan Yarwood as the Director of Performance. Yarwood will be overseeing the training program and the development of the Academy’s coaching team. “I am looking forward to having Jonathan on the BGGA team,” stated Lee Anne Gilchrist, Chief Executive Officer of Bishops Gate Golf Academy. “His many years of coaching top-tier junior golfers will bring a new depth of experience to our program. Jonathan has spent his previous career traveling the world coaching elite players while still teaching golfers of all standards and abilities. He is one of the most successful coaches in terms of the breadth of his achievements which include:
- One US OPEN Champion-2005- Michael Campbell at Pinehurst, defeating Tiger by 2 strokes.
- Two US Amateur Champions
- Two US Girls Champions
- 3 American Junior Golf Association Players of the Year
- 4 US #1 Juniors
- 123 junior national & international wins
Starting his teaching career as a PGA assistant in England, he came to the US in1996 to join the IMG/David Leadbetter Golf Academies in Florida. Jonathan spent 9 years with Leadbetter. When the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Sarasota opened its Tm Fazio designed Members Club, Yarwood became the Director of Instruction. Additionally he has built and developed coaching academies in the United Kingdom , Europe and US. I met Jonathan at the Tony Jacklin and Jack Nicklaus designed Concession Golf Club where he had his own golf school and was personal instructor to Byeong-Hun An, the youngest man to win the US Amateur.
Yarwood has been voted a “Top 20 Teacher under 40” by Golf Digest and “Top Teacher in the State Rankings” for Florida for the past 10 years. The UK PGA also honored him in 2011 with Master Professional status making him the youngest to hold that title. Other Masters include David Leadbetter, Pete Cowan and John Jacobs.
