Jan Bel Jan Earns WIGI President’s Award

Golf Course Architect Jan Bel Jan, ASGCA, received the distinguished President’s Award from Women in the Golf Industry(WIGI) at the 2014 PGA Golf Merchandise Show in Orlando. The award was presented by WIGI President Elizabeth Noblitt, CEO of Shi Shi Putter, an Online Shop for Women’s Golf Apparel, at a January 22nd reception at the Orange County Convention Center. Women in the Golf Industry, founded in 2001, is a networking organization for women employed or self-employed in golf related businesses. WIGI members are in all facets of the golf industry.

Jan hails from Pittsburgh, Pa. where her father George was a golf professional and superintendent with three of her uncle’s also as PGA Professionals, learning the game, agronomy and business of golf. She began her design career with Tom Fazio where she held a senior position in course design, construction and project management. In 1984 she became a Registered Landscape Architect and in 1990 was elected to the prestigious American Society of Golf Course Architects, the second women behind Alice Dye to ever be included in the Society. Jan represents the ASGCA as a board member of the National Alliance for Accessible Golf. In 2009, Jan Bel Jan added to her resume by becoming a Certified Arborist.

Jan serves on the board of directors for WIGI and is the Recording Secretary for the organization. She is a founding partner and Managing Member of the National Women’s Golf Alliance(NWGA), a consortium committed to increasing the number of women playing golf and improve engagement levels of existing female golfers. Her name appears on Sports Illustrated’ Golf Plus list of the “Top Ten Most Influential Women in the Game of Golf”. She maintains her own design firm, Jan Bel Jan Golf Course Design in Jupiter, Florida and is an Adjunct Professor at Hodges University in Naples.
