The Golf Buddy WT3 GPS/Watch is one of the easiest to use GPS watches ever designed. A fully functional wristwatch, with a fifty-day rechargeable battery, the WT3 comes loaded with over 36,000 courses with automatic course and hole recognition and requires no membership or download fees.
The WT3 is very durable, designed with a silicone rubber strap and PolyCarbonate/ABS body and it is completely waterproof. For those of you old enough to remember, it is like a Timex watch: it takes a licking and keeps on ticking, except in this case it keeps on digitizing.
As far as technology goes, the GolfBuddy WT3 features are unmatched in the GPS watch category:
- Preloaded with over 36,000 courses worldwide
- GPS tracking
- Automatic course and hole recognition
- Shot distance measurement
- Pin placement
- Dynamic green view which always provides accurate yardages to the green directly from the golfer’s angle of approach
- Target/hazard information
- Digital scorecard
- Long lasting battery (50 days)
- Water resistant
- Free Updates
Golf Buddy WT3: On the Course
The Golf Buddy WT3 fits on your wrist just like any other adjustable strap wristwatch, the only concern I had was the thickness of the device. The face of the WT3 is almost twice as thick as any wristwatch I have ever worn. During play however, I never felt like it was in my way. Always knew it was there but it was very comfortable and the advantages to wearing it far out weigh the perceived bulkiness of the WT3.
The capabilities of the WT3 are fantastic. I compared the distances to that of a laser range finder my playing partner was using, and ninety-nine percent of the time they were the same.
One of the biggest advantages was that I did not have to take my rangefinder out of the case, find my target, hold it steady and squint through the viewfinder. Just a quick glance at my wrist and I knew my distances.
However, on the flip side, to use the advanced features, such as the digital scorecard, GPS tracking, and the advanced playing options it is not as easy. There are three buttons you use to manage these features and the instructions are not very detailed on how/what to do. I didn’t spend much time playing around with these features and I suppose with a little time these features would become easier to use.
Note: Golf Buddy will be introducing the GolfBuddy WT4 later this year which is a slimmed down version of the WT3. All of the same features in a much slimmer design.
