Escalante Acquires Carolina Trace Country Club

The unique boutique owner and operator of high end golf clubs, Escalante Golf, has acquired the highly acclaimed Carolina Trace Country Club in Sanford, North Carolina.

“We are very excited to acquire Carolina Trace and honored to be associated with such a storied golf club,’ says David McDonald, President of Escalante. “It is a beautiful property in one of the most sought after locations between Raleigh and Pinehurst. The two courses have hosted several well-known events and have terrific reputations throughout the Mid-Atlantic. The community itself is a gorgeous setting highlighted by pristine Lake Trace.”

Carolina Trace C.C. opened in 1972 and is the centerpiece of the 1,600-home world class gated Carolina Trace community. The club features a 30,00 square foot clubhouse, two championship Robert Trent Jones Sr. layouts, the Lake & Creek courses. Other amenities include a swimming pool, fitness center, tennis courts, marina, a fully stocked pro shop and lovely restaurants in the clubhouse.

Escalante bought the club from the members who selected them from other potential suitors. The company will begin an aggressive capital reinvestment including a complete renovation of the Lake Course, a new state-of-the-art fitness and workout facility, clubhouse renovation and additional landscaping.

“We are planning significant improvements for the club that will add to its stature,” adds McDonald. “Work will begin next spring on a major facelift for the Lake Course, which will include laser leveling and rebuilding all tee boxes, adding length to several holes, reconstructing all bunkers and replacing all cart paths. The end result will be a fantastic golf experience for our members and guests. We hope to create tremendous excitement within the community and the surrounding area.”

Escalante Golf, founded in 1991 and based in Fort Worth, Texas, has quietly assembled an impressive collection of exclusive clubs in key markets that have hosted several prestigious amateur and professional golf tournaments including the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship, The Charles Schwab Cup, WGC Match Play, and the Shell Houston Open. In the Southeast they have Black Diamond Ranch in Florida, Gray Plantation in Lake Charles, Louisiana and numerous luxury properties in Texas. For more information;
