Led by DJ’s college and Tour coach, new school works with juniors and adults, using latest technology to foster long-term development.
Few golfers have burst onto the PGA Tour with such immediate excitement and success as Dustin Johnson. He already has nine official Tour wins and is regularly at the top of the driving-distance category. He’s also a proven crowd favorite.
But the bedrock of DJ’s game is a solid set of fundamentals and strong work ethic instilled in him by coach Allen Terrell, PGA, who has worked with Johnson since college and continues to be his Tour instructor.
Building on their mutual success, Johnson and Terrell are proud to announce the opening of the Dustin Johnson Golf School, located at the TPC Myrtle Beach along the famous “Grand Strand” in South Carolina. The school offers a wide variety of instructional options for players of all ages, from juniors through college and into the pros, as well as for avid amateurs.
“My work with Dustin has helped lay the groundwork,” says Terrell, the school’s Director of Coaching. “And I’ve worked with many elite players, including more than 300 college golfers. That experience helps me work with amateurs, too, because no matter how skilled the player is, real improvement relies on the proper functioning of the golf swing. And that’s what we teach.”
More than just teaching the swing, the Dustin Johnson Golf School (DJGS) provides its students with a comprehensive game plan for long-term development. “We want every client to have a road map to a lifetime of continuous improvement,” says Terrell, who has more than 17 years’ experience in player development. “We work with every player on creating plans for working out, training, and practice as well as playing. We know that not everyone wants to qualify for a professional tour. But we also know that the real thrill of golf is getting better, shooting lower scores, and having more fun. Our program aims to help with all that—and more.”
Terrell offers a variety of instructional packages to suit players’ needs, from private and playing lessons to one-, two-, and three-day schools, as well as monthly and yearly packages. DJGS also offers personalized fitness programs based on TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) screenings and workouts. There are also “power workouts” designed to mirror DJ’s own training.
For juniors, DJGS training begins as young as 3 years old (as part of “DJ’s Future Stars” classes), mixing golf’s athletic skills with developing a passion for the game. More advanced programs take the young golfer all the way to college golf, where Terrell has had years of success preparing players for the highest levels of competition.
