Diamondhead Country Club, Mississippi Selects New Super

Steven E. Smith has accepted the position as Golf Course Superintendent for the Diamondhead Country Club on Mississippi’s Gulf Coast. Steven left the Arnold Palmer designed Bridges Golf Course at Hollywood Casino in Bay St. Louis, also on the coast, to join the superb team at Diamondhead.

Smith brings a great resume of prior experience, having worked at the Stonebriar C.C. in Frisco, Texas, Walden on Lake Conroe and Woodlands C.C. in Montgomery, Texas and the Dallas Northwood Club, that will ensure two great golf courses at Diamondhead. Steven holds a Bachelor’s of Science double major in Agronomy and Entomology from Texas A&M University. Steven stated, “I am very excited to join the team at the Diamondhead C.C and look forward to making our guests golf experience enjoyable.”

Diamondhead is conveniently located off of Interstate 10 between New Orleans and Biloxi at exit 16 and welcomes public play on their two championship golf courses- Cardinal & PIne. In fact Diamondhead is the only facility on the Mississippi Gulf Coast that offers 36 holes. Stay & play packages are available with the Country Club and their lodging partners. With the addition of the Golf Academy of Diamondhead, golfers can book packages that may include professional golf instruction in the only indoor/outdoor state of the art golf training facility. Hoppy Smith and Laura McCann are the instructors.

They have a full service restaurant and 19th hole grill, 8 hydra clay lighted tennis courts, an airport operated buy the POA of Diamondhead and a marina with access to the Bay at St.Louis. There is 5400 square feet of meeting space available for weddings, and meetings.

Course Statistics: Both are par 72s with Pine rolling out to 6769, and the Cardinal just 6729. Slope is 129 for the bird and 132 for the tree, and rating 72.7 an 72.8 respectively.
