Diamond Resorts Celebrity Tournament January 14-16

Sports and entertainment stars, including current and future Hall of Famers and MVPs will be teeing it up in the Inaugural Diamond Resorts Invitational Celebrity Golf Tournament at the magnificent Jack Nicklaus Signature designed course at Golden Bear Club at Keene’s Point in Orlando, Florida, January 14-16. Jerry Rice, Reggie Jackson, Roger Clemons and Larry the Cable Guy are among the many early sign-ups for the tournament that boasts a $500,000 purse with a $100,000 first prize, three days of live coverage on Golf Channel, and a goal to raise $1 million for Florida Hospital for Children.

At a press conference announcing the tournament at Florida Hospital for Children, former Super Bowl winning quarterback from the Washington Redskins Mark Rypien, former Boston Red Sox & New York Yankee World Series champion, Johnny Damon, and Brian Gay, PGA TOUR player and Windermere, Fl. resident, voiced their enthusiasm for the event. “The commitment from Diamond Resorts International and Golf Channel are the foundation for success in the coming years,” said Rypien, two time winner of the American Century Championship at Lake Tahoe. “The celebrity field, the competition and the outstanding venue will become a major happening for the Orlando area.”

Military veteran and amputee Chad Pfeifer, who has pursued a pro golf career despite losing his left leg to an IED in Iraq, is also playing. Chad, a 3 time winner of President George W. Bush’s Warrior Open, is the first U.S.Army veteran amputee to compete on the Web.com Tour. Pfeifer, who is a Celebrity Ambassador for the Diamond Resorts, finished 5th in 2014 at the Lake Tahoe American Century Championship, competed in the Golf Channel’s Big Break-The Palm Beaches and won the 2015 National Amputee Golf Tournament.

Tournament week begins Wednesday the 13th with the Third Annual Brian Gay Invitational, an 18 hole celebrity-amateur competition featuring foursomes comprised of 3 amateurs and one celebrity. presented by Diamond Resorts International.
Over the past 2 years, the Brian Gay Invitational has raised $1.2 million for the Florida Hospital for Children. An evening gala and headliner concert at the beautiful Mystic Dunes Resort and Golf Club, a Diamond flagship property in Orlando, will complement the action.

The top ten amateurs(5 each from gross & net divisions) will advance to play alongside the celebrities the next 3 days in the
Diamond Resorts Invitational, The amateur grand prize includes a Platinum membership in THE CLUB at Diamond Resorts. in addition to many upgrades, the Platinum membership affords more than 50,000 points to be used toward travel and vacation at any destination in their global network portfolio including the Diamond Luxury Selection.

The tournament will utilize a modified Stableford scoring system with players receiving 6 points for eagle, 3 for birdie, 1 for par, 0 for bogey and -2 for double or higher.

There is a limited number of tickets for the Brian Gay Invitational Wednesday the 13th, and the Diamond Resorts Invitational, Thursday -Saturday, the 14th-16th.
