Big Break Selects Myrtle Beach for #22

Golf Channel’s popular competition series, Big Break, has selected South Carolina’s Myrtle Beach as the location for its 22nd season. It will be produced in partnership with Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday and South Carolina Tourism and will feature 6 aspiring professional men and women. The twelve contestants will be looking to jumpstart their career with the goal of achieving their lifelong dream of playing alongside the world’s top golfers. The show will take place at the 2,300 acre residential golf community of Barefoot Resort in North Myrtle Beach and the winner of the competition will receive an exemption to a 2015 event on their respective Tour along with cash and prizes.

Two South Carolina natives have gone on from the Big Break series to successful careers on their tours; Tommy ‘Two Gloves’ Gainey and Kristy McPherson. “Big Break Myrtle Beach will illustrate what so many golfers already know about South Carolina- that it is the best golf destination in the country,” said Duane Parrish, Director of the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism. ” Our year round mild climate, naturally beautiful settings, challenging courses and major golfing events combine to make South Carolina just right for golf.” For more information, visit www.DiscoverSouthCarolina.com.

“We look forward to showcasing everything that Myrtle Beach has to offer and giving 12 aspiring young professionals an opportunity that could change their life,” said Bill Golden, President of Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday. “Big Break is a Golf Channel institution, and the timing was perfect to partner the game’s most popular show with golf’s most popular destination. The drama of Big Break Myrtle Beach will unfold on some of our best courses, and we can not wait for the viewers to get a taste of our superb golf and locale.” For more information visit www.MyrtleBeachGolfHoliday.com.

Filmed on location in the “Seaside Golf Capital of the World” the series will unfold on three of Barefoot Resort’s four award winning courses-designed by Pete Dye, Tom Fazio and Davis Love III, as well as Pawley’s Plantation on Pawley’s Island for one episode. The Marina Inn and Resort at Grande Dunes hosted the competitors and Golf Channel crew during the taping. For more information on a great golf vacation visit www.BarefootGolfVacations.com.

Golf Channel introduced Big Break in 2003 and has been highlighting great golf locations for 21 seasons. “Our goal is to place our competitors in pressure situations while at the same time showcase an elite golf destination. We accomplished that again with Big Break Myrtle Beach and are excited to bring the series to the ‘Grand Strand’ for our 22nd season.” During the show the players will be subject to skills challenges from tee-to-green including the popular “Glass Break” and “Flop Wall”. One contestant will be eliminated each week until the last player is awarded the Grand Prize of the Champion of Big Break Myrtle Beach, the opportunity to play in a PGA or LPGA Tour event in 2015, money and prizes. The show will air in October on Golf Channel.
