Jimmy Brandt from Auburn, Alabama defeated Toph Peterson from Utah 3&1 in the championship match of Golf Channel’s 22nd season competition reality show. Big Break took place in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina at the magnificent 2,300 acre Barefoot Resort & Golf featuring the ‘Fantastic Four’ superb golf courses by Greg Norman, David Love III, Tom Fazio and Pete Dye.

The finale between Brandt and Peterson was contested on the Barefoot Fazio Course, and all square through nine holes, as if no one wanted to win. Jimmy finally took charge on the back, winning three of the first five with Toph conceding on # 17. Both contestants and Christian, who was eliminated earlier, were at the PNC Father & Son at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club, Grande Lakes where I got the chance to talk with the three really good and fun competitors.

“I can’t believe it, this is surreal right now,” said an emotional Brandt following the conclusion of the match. “This is going to change my life. Biggest win of my career and the greatest thing that has ever happened to me.” As champion of Big Break Myrtle Beach, Brandt will receive an invitation to compete in the PGA Tour’s Valspar Championship on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Golf Resort near Tampa, Florida March 12-15. In addition he will receive:

$75,000 in cash, including $6,000 courtesy of Dick’s Sporting Goods, $10,000 from Macanudo Cigars, and $10,000 courtesy of Adams Golf.

  • Full exempt status to the SwingThought.com Tour with all entry fees paid.
  • An endorsement contract with Adams Golf
  • $10,000 in car rental credit courtesy of Avis.
  • $10,000 in travel credit from Travelocity.
  • A 7-day/6-night all expense paid return visit to Myrtle Beach at North Beach Plantation with 6 rounds of golf at any of the 100 premier golf courses in the Grand Strand.

Additionally, he earned $7,500 from Macanudo & $2,500 from Avis by winning Big Break challenges.

Big Break Myrtle Beach was produced in partnership with Myrtle Beach Holiday and South Carolina Tourism and featured a cast of 12 men and women vying for the Big Break trophy, with one player being eliminated each week until only one, Mr. Jimmy Brandt, was left standing.

The 23rd season of Big Break will premier Monday, February 2nd on Golf Channel at PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida with an all male cast competing on the four championship golf courses. The winner will receive an invitation to the 2015 PGA Tour’s Honda Classic, which is played on the Resort’s Jack Nicklaus redesigned Champion layout with the infamous ‘Bear Trap’ looming large on the back nine, plus cash and prizes. If you enjoy golf competition with a little twist, take a peak at Big Break Palm Beaches, this February.
